Idea Kitchen! The Floating Future Food Lab

Welcome to our floating ideas kitchen aboard the MS Stubnitz! Together, we’ll transform the ship into a Future Food Lab and experiment with unusual ingredients, materials, technologies, and ideas related to the future of our food.
We’ll research, build, mix, shape, taste, and invent. Maybe we’ll create crazy space snacks, mysterious witch’s potions, or edible experiments. Maybe we’ll give leftovers and apparent waste a new lease on life, make plants grow sky-high, or make food sing.
What exactly will happen? We’ll find out together.
At the Future Food Lab, there are no set recipes. What counts here are curiosity, imagination, and a love of experimentation. Initial ideas give rise to small experiments, surprising prototypes, and maybe even things that have never existed before.

Liesa Balzer she/her
Liesa (she/her) is a designer, product developer, and enabler at the intersection of technology, making, and education. After nearly ten years in textile product development, she is now primarily focused on one question: How can we empower people—especially young people—to not only conceive their own ideas but also bring them to life themselves?
Fab City Hamburg
At Fab City Hamburg, Liesa is working on exactly this idea. Fab City Hamburg connects people, open workshops, education, research, and businesses with a shared vision: a city that doesn’t just consume, but shapes itself. A city where people repair, reuse, experiment, and produce locally—and where knowledge and tools are accessible to as many people as possible.
There, Liesa develops and coordinates the educational programs “Make Your School” and the “Fab-Edu Hardware Kit.” Together with schools, makerspaces, and regional partners, she creates learning spaces where design, technology, and educational work come together.
In workshops, hack days, and training sessions, participants experiment, build, discard ideas, and think creatively. For Liesa, the future isn’t shaped solely by new technologies, but above all when people gain access to them and develop the courage to get hands-on themselves.
